Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often cited, however her short visit to the West Island was not. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She initially wanted to be an actor, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners were no longer able to dance along with her. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts and stopped dancing, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the annual school production. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the school's annual show. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have varied. Her role as Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
